Most of us following Dr Poon live with people who are not, so when possible I like to show how you can modify recipes to satisfy the family as well so you don't have to cook separate meals.  Hubby has enjoyed all of the meals I'm making, but he'll add bread or tortillas or have potatoes or other veggies on the side to round it out for him, while I'll have veggies and/or salad with mine. For recipes where cheese or bacon are used, use low-sodium, low-fat varieties if you're following Dr Poon.

I try to remember to mark the recipes as Phase 1 or 2, but I do forget so be aware if there are tomatoes or any root veggies (carrot, turnip, pumpkin) it's a Phase 2 recipe. Of course you can always swap those out for Phase 1 appropriate veggies if you're still on Phase 1.

Bacon Cheddar Chicken Breasts

BBQ Pulled Pork.  [Also see amazing Slow Cooker Kalua Pig further down the page.]

Beef Burgers on Salad (or use pork, chicken, turkey)

Cabbage Roll Soup (Phase 2)

Cajun Prawns (Shrimp) w/Cauliflower Rice inspired by Primal Journey.

Chicken Thighs with Dijon Mustard Glaze - modify this paleo recipe to suit Dr Poon by using oil instead of melted butter, leaving out the salt and taking the skin off the chicken.

Cheesesteak on Salad (make into Quesadillas for the rest of the family).

Cheesesteak Stuffed Peppers

Chunky Steak Chili (Phase 2) This is a Paleo recipe so to suit Dr Poon be sure to use low-sodium ingredients. You could even use a low- or no-sodium beef broth instead of the water and eliminate the stock powder if you can't find a low-sodium version.

Complete Meal - pot of Beef Vegetable "free / all you can eat" soup

Creamy Coleslaw - goes great with the Kalua Pig

Crockpot Chili (Medium-Hot) - the Chunky Chili above is milder, but both are delicious!

Faux Stuffed Baked 'Potatoes' using Cauliflower - modify this low-carb recipe to suit Dr Poon by using low-sodium bacon, using green onion, and only a couple tablespoons low fat onion chive cream cheese.  Mix well and sprinkle a handful of Kraft LiveFree or other very low fat (<5% fat) cheese over the top and put in the oven 20-25 minutes.

Fauxtato Salad with cauliflower standing in for the potatoes - yum!

Lasagna Stuffed Peppers (use allowed cheeses for Dr Poon and go easy on the amount)

Lazy Cabbage Casserole from Leigh Costa's Poonapalooza blog - my go-to recipe every which I made nearly every Sunday for the first several months on this plan. It yields 5 servings - one for Sunday dinner, the other 4 for weekday lunches.

Meaty Tomato Sauce (for low-carb pasta, lasagna, etc.)

Mexican Chicken with Cauliflower Rice.

Mexican Chicken Tenders with Roast Veggies.

Mustard Pepper Steak - so good!

Pork Casserole, Rustic Style

Rosemary and Thyme Pork Chops

Slow Cooker Kalua Pig (Pulled Pork) - this has become my new favourite way to cook pork! This stuff is amazing, well worth the wait.

Shredded Pork Enchiladas - use very low-carb tortillas for these to suit Dr Poon Phase 2
(I used leftover Kalua Pig above for the filling but you could use anything you like)

Stuffed Pepper Soup with Cauliflower Rice - easy and delicious!

Zucchini and Carrot Egg Loaf - with bacon and cheese, yum!

  1. Guys, you gotta try the Kalua Pig, that is the best pulled pork I've ever had and SO EASY to make. Remove as much of the fat as possible to suit Dr Poon.
